Purpose and Responsibilities

The Committee on Preparation for Ministry (CPM) is responsible for the care and supervision of inquiries and candidates for Ministry of the Word and Sacrament per the Book of Order, and serves on behalf of the Presbytery for the purpose of:

  1. Accompanying inquirers and candidates through their of study and preparation
  2. Preparing inquirers and candidates for their next steps of examination
  3. Overseeing the Ordination
  4. Receiving candidates by transfer from other presbyteries for the purpose of accepting validated calls to ministry in the Presbytery of Utah 

The process to become a Minister of Word and Sacrament is a long one which includes to understand God’s call in the inquirers and candidates’ life. To understand the process better, CoPM refers everybody who is in the discernment process to the  Advisory Handbook from the PC(USA) for understanding the process's shape and form.

Members of CoPM

The CoPM consists of 3 to 5 elected members to serve three-year terms in rotating classes. One member will be nominated and elected by the Presbytery as Moderator for a one-year term.
